Cult of Mithras (round 2)
I decided since I had a little time this morning I would try to find some more interesting information. I just googled in Cult of Mithras and went for it. There are two things that are pretty interesting in the head lines that popped up. The first is that The Cult of Mithras is a part of a couple video games so it OBVIOUSLY was violet. The second is that the majority of the headlines come up as the battle between The Cult of Mithras and Christianity. Some articles even say that Christianity stole many ideas from the cult. What I am still struggling to find is any violent actions these men took. There is talk about them being soldiers, but not slaughtering besides that of Mithras and the bull. Another little interesting fact is that the spell check on this blog does not recognize Mithras, but it does recognize Mithra. I thought that was kinda cool.

Cult of Mithras
I'm just going to write down what I read about Mithras. This will be choppy and unorganized. Its just easier this way.
- Mithras was born from a rock
- Was called Mithras by the Romans, but may have existed as Mithra with the Greeks
- It is believed that the cults were first started by Cilican pirates
- (side note) while I do love a little history, Wikipedia takes forever to get the good stuff
- (side note II) House in the morning and some coffee is freaking amazing
- So I've learned that this group was big into the stars and that Mithras may have not be a single consolation, but a traveling one. It could also be related to Orion since it is close to Taurs the bull and Mithras is famous for his killing of the sacred bull.
- I finally get to the real good stuff about beliefs and practices..."not much is known about the beliefs of the cult of Mithras" disappointing
- I guess these guys liked to eat. So do I. Maybe ill start this cult back up again
- These guy's temples were located under ground. Even though they didn't pose much of a threat they still felt they needed to hide their practices.
- Pretty disappointed. The only fairly interesting was that Christianity found these guys as a threat.

Gilgamesh vs. Sherlock Holmes
In my advanced composition last semester one of the students did a report on the comparisson between Gilgamesh and Sherlock Holmes. I had never read Gilgamesh before but it seemed interesting. Having now read it, I find this to be a very cool connection. The idea of the apprentice keeping the head person humble and more clear headed. The issues that the pair need to solve together. I guess the relationship between the main character and their assistent is what is most interesting. Ill go into more detail in another post since I need to get to campus but I wanted to get this at least out there before my thunder was stolen.

Modern Heros?
A very interesting point that was brought up in the Campbell reading was the idea of the sports arena being a display for modern heroes. At first I thought it was strange that our sports hero's are shown in certain medias such as TV and in stadiums. However, after thinking about it a little, I realized that many of the heroes in the past were also shown in the most advanced media. What I still find a little embarrassing for today's society, is that our heroes "boon" is minimal to non-existent in many cases. Yes, there are the feel good stories about sport starts using their wealth and public domain to help others, but for every act of generosity, there is 100 stories about stars who abuse their money, and in extreme cases, actually become hindrances off the field they play on. I feel our ideals of heroes have fallen. Yes we still admire those who do good deeds, and those even out of the profession of athlete that help their fellow man get recognition, but that seems very short lived, even if those individual constantly better the community they live in. However, those who follow in the path of OJ Simson are remembered throughout decades. For every Nnamdi Asomugha, the Walter Payton award winning for good deeds, and yes I doubt anyone knew that further proving my point, there is Barry Bonds, who will be known as the face of an entire era in baseball. This idea on focusing on the negatives seems to be a major ideal that has changed since the heroes of the past.

How a coup d'etat would take place in a matriarchal society
The Fall of a Queen
Queen Becklikelikea of the OMG clan(we'll call her Becky for short) hand been queen of Mallamoneya for two years. She had been the sister of TotsarahAlly of the Tightjean clan who had moved on to the Second World of Knowledge and left her sister in her place. Queen Becky was a tyrant. Besides the Clique Council, who were the army of Queen Becky, everyone under her rule suffered from constant back stabbing and crippling backhanded compliments. As she progressed in her reign, she became worse and worse.
The goddess Gina of the Nurturing Mother clan decided something must be done. In what would be Becky's final year of power, Gina gave her a disease call Senioritis. This disease clouded her mind and made her feel invincible, opening her to weakness. The sickness spread like a miniature plague and soon the entire Clique Council had contracted Senioritis. Their vision also became clouded. The oppressed people of Mallamoneya were told by Gina about Queen Becky's weakness and gave them a plan to defeat the evil queen. Gina told the people that she would give one of them the power to become truly trusted by Queen Becky, and when the the time of the Great Dance came, the chosen one would be able to strike the Queen and overthrow her and her followers.
The oppressor had ruled with the Sword of the Crossed Fingers. This weapon gave her the power to give her word to a person, break the promise and not feel guilty about it. However, sword was only as powerful as the owner, and in her unknown weakened state, she was no longer fit to have this weapon as her only defense. Warrior Stacy of the Brace Face clan was given a gift by Gina, and was removed of her metal mouth. Stacy's bulky heap of brackets and screws replaced with lip stick and eyeshadow, and her beauty exceeded that of any in the Clique Council. Stacy's beauty caught Queen Becky's eye. In previous times, the evil overlord would have used her Sword of the Crossed Fingers to create a false friendship only to destroy the spirit of her enemy. However, in her clouded state, Queen Becky appointed the Warrior Stacy as her new best female fighter (BFF).
Months passed, and soon Queen Becky was adhering to all of the advice of Stacy, just as Gina had foretold. The month before the Great Dance, Stacy was asked by the Queen to be the seamstress for her dress for the dance. Stacy was known throughout Mallamoneya and being a master of the needle. She was also quite clever. Stacy told the Queen that once the measurements were taken that she would not be allowed to look at the dress till the night of the Great Dance. In her ignorance, Queen Becky trusted Stacy's word, and did not place her gaze on the dress until the night of the Great Dance. As the days passed, Stacy worked on the dress. It was truly stunning. However, the dress had a dye placed in it to where it would turn the skin of who ever wore it the color of purple. When the day of the Great Dance came, Stacy presented the dress to the Queen. Once again blinded by arrogance, the Queen was ecstatic and quickly put on the dress. As the first song played, and Becky danced with her prince, her skin turned to the royal color she always thought she was. When she realized what had happened, she left the Dance in shame, and when word came around of what Stacy had done, she was appointed Dance Queen.
