Trickster

We talked a lot about the trickster having an appetite and that being what drove the actions of this character. What seemed to keep popping up in my mind is that the trickster enjoys balance, and that this balance may be the actual long term incentive for the obscene person. Yes one of the tools are chaos, but that seems to be used to balance out some sort of deficiency with in the society. Robin Hood comes to mind when I think about this chaos creating balance. This "hero" reeks havoc on the rich, but his actions bring up the financial status of the poor. Yes in the Disney version there is some morals behind these actions, but as we stated in class, but in the less child like version this could just be the character being obscene and seeing beyond just the scene of the poor being unfairly treated, as seeing that in-order to keep the balance of his environment he needs to create chaos in the rich society. Also, because the trickster resides in the liminal space, there is a need to have some sort of balance between the world of the immortal, and the human race. The trickster needs both of these places to thrive in-order for his threshold or move between world to exist. If only one area is dominant, then his world no longer serves a purpose. This is why this character will steal items form the gods and give them to the humans. While it is seen as a great deed by the humans, it is really just a way to preserve this neither nor space where the obscene lives.

Jesus the Trickster?

This is going to sound a little strange, but in the case of giving humans some sort of devine need while taking the punishment for giving the humans these needs, it in some way sort of sounds like Jesus. He gives man kind eternal life, and takes on the sins that prevent people from normally having this. Yes it is not the gods punishing Jesus for giving man kind this eternal life, but there is still a punishment. Just a thought.

Moses

Another idea that came to mind about important biblical stones was when Moses hits the rock with his staff and water flows from it. Also the 10 Commandments were written on stones. I'm sure there are several more cases, but these two came to mind when I was thinking about Moses.

Arthur as JC

Wow the religious implications are pretty blatant in the end of this. Arthur dying and then being prophisised to return when Britain needs him screams Jesus Christ, as does the fact that he is betrayed by someone who used to be his follower (Mordred). This one is a little lose but Bedivere fails to return the sword to the lake as Peter denies Christ; however, Bedivere only fails to return the sword twice while Peter denies three times. Arthur fulfills a prophesy as does Jesus. Lancelot reminds me of the apostle Paul. At first he is harmful to Arthur as Paul was to the Christians, but at the end, he repents and becomes a priest as Paul became an apostle of Christ. Guinevere seems to me like Mary Magdalene. Guinevere was never a prostitute, but she sure wasn't faithful, but after the death of Arthur, she becomes a nun. Mary Magdalene was saved by Jesus from stoning, and then became on of his most devoted followers. That's all I have.

Hecate

According to wikipedia, Hecate, like many other goddesses, covers many different areas. Here are the ones listed on this oh so reliable website: "childbirth, nurturing the young, gates and walls, doorways, crossroads, magic, lunar lore, torches, and dogs." Dogs? It just seems like the Greeks were looking for a god/goddess for a dog, played spin the bottle, and boom Hecate- goddess of the dog. That was just a random thought. One interesting idea that wiki gave was that Zeus honored the goddess Hecate over all others. It also points out that she is the known for her knowledge of herbs and plants. This makes a lot of sense since it was herbs that she gave Jason so that he would be godlike. She also one heck of a mediator working between the Olympians and the Titans as well as mortals and divine spheres. She is also represented in threes (Ill include a picture). This makes a lot of sense she seems to represent the three stages of a woman goddess. These are just some interesting things I've learned.

Cult of Mithras (round 2)

I decided since I had a little time this morning I would try to find some more interesting information. I just googled in Cult of Mithras and went for it. There are two things that are pretty interesting in the head lines that popped up. The first is that The Cult of Mithras is a part of a couple video games so it OBVIOUSLY was violet. The second is that the majority of the headlines come up as the battle between The Cult of Mithras and Christianity. Some articles even say that Christianity stole many ideas from the cult. What I am still struggling to find is any violent actions these men took. There is talk about them being soldiers, but not slaughtering besides that of Mithras and the bull. Another little interesting fact is that the spell check on this blog does not recognize Mithras, but it does recognize Mithra. I thought that was kinda cool.

Cult of Mithras

I'm just going to write down what I read about Mithras. This will be choppy and unorganized. Its just easier this way.
  • Mithras was born from a rock
  • Was called Mithras by the Romans, but may have existed as Mithra with the Greeks
  • It is believed that the cults were first started by Cilican pirates
  • (side note) while I do love a little history, Wikipedia takes forever to get the good stuff
  • (side note II) House in the morning and some coffee is freaking amazing
  • So I've learned that this group was big into the stars and that Mithras may have not be a single consolation, but a traveling one. It could also be related to Orion since it is close to Taurs the bull and Mithras is famous for his killing of the sacred bull.
  • I finally get to the real good stuff about beliefs and practices..."not much is known about the beliefs of the cult of Mithras" disappointing
  • I guess these guys liked to eat. So do I. Maybe ill start this cult back up again
  • These guy's temples were located under ground. Even though they didn't pose much of a threat they still felt they needed to hide their practices.
  • Pretty disappointed. The only fairly interesting was that Christianity found these guys as a threat.

Gilgamesh vs. Sherlock Holmes

In my advanced composition last semester one of the students did a report on the comparisson between Gilgamesh and Sherlock Holmes. I had never read Gilgamesh before but it seemed interesting. Having now read it, I find this to be a very cool connection. The idea of the apprentice keeping the head person humble and more clear headed. The issues that the pair need to solve together. I guess the relationship between the main character and their assistent is what is most interesting. Ill go into more detail in another post since I need to get to campus but I wanted to get this at least out there before my thunder was stolen.

Modern Heros?

A very interesting point that was brought up in the Campbell reading was the idea of the sports arena being a display for modern heroes. At first I thought it was strange that our sports hero's are shown in certain medias such as TV and in stadiums. However, after thinking about it a little, I realized that many of the heroes in the past were also shown in the most advanced media. What I still find a little embarrassing for today's society, is that our heroes "boon" is minimal to non-existent in many cases. Yes, there are the feel good stories about sport starts using their wealth and public domain to help others, but for every act of generosity, there is 100 stories about stars who abuse their money, and in extreme cases, actually become hindrances off the field they play on. I feel our ideals of heroes have fallen. Yes we still admire those who do good deeds, and those even out of the profession of athlete that help their fellow man get recognition, but that seems very short lived, even if those individual constantly better the community they live in. However, those who follow in the path of OJ Simson are remembered throughout decades. For every Nnamdi Asomugha, the Walter Payton award winning for good deeds, and yes I doubt anyone knew that further proving my point, there is Barry Bonds, who will be known as the face of an entire era in baseball. This idea on focusing on the negatives seems to be a major ideal that has changed since the heroes of the past.

How a coup d'etat would take place in a matriarchal society

The Fall of a Queen

Queen Becklikelikea of the OMG clan(we'll call her Becky for short) hand been queen of Mallamoneya for two years. She had been the sister of TotsarahAlly of the Tightjean clan who had moved on to the Second World of Knowledge and left her sister in her place. Queen Becky was a tyrant. Besides the Clique Council, who were the army of Queen Becky, everyone under her rule suffered from constant back stabbing and crippling backhanded compliments. As she progressed in her reign, she became worse and worse.

The goddess Gina of the Nurturing Mother clan decided something must be done. In what would be Becky's final year of power, Gina gave her a disease call Senioritis. This disease clouded her mind and made her feel invincible, opening her to weakness. The sickness spread like a miniature plague and soon the entire Clique Council had contracted Senioritis. Their vision also became clouded. The oppressed people of Mallamoneya were told by Gina about Queen Becky's weakness and gave them a plan to defeat the evil queen. Gina told the people that she would give one of them the power to become truly trusted by Queen Becky, and when the the time of the Great Dance came, the chosen one would be able to strike the Queen and overthrow her and her followers.

The oppressor had ruled with the Sword of the Crossed Fingers. This weapon gave her the power to give her word to a person, break the promise and not feel guilty about it. However, sword was only as powerful as the owner, and in her unknown weakened state, she was no longer fit to have this weapon as her only defense. Warrior Stacy of the Brace Face clan was given a gift by Gina, and was removed of her metal mouth. Stacy's bulky heap of brackets and screws replaced with lip stick and eyeshadow, and her beauty exceeded that of any in the Clique Council. Stacy's beauty caught Queen Becky's eye. In previous times, the evil overlord would have used her Sword of the Crossed Fingers to create a false friendship only to destroy the spirit of her enemy. However, in her clouded state, Queen Becky appointed the Warrior Stacy as her new best female fighter (BFF).

Months passed, and soon Queen Becky was adhering to all of the advice of Stacy, just as Gina had foretold. The month before the Great Dance, Stacy was asked by the Queen to be the seamstress for her dress for the dance. Stacy was known throughout Mallamoneya and being a master of the needle. She was also quite clever. Stacy told the Queen that once the measurements were taken that she would not be allowed to look at the dress till the night of the Great Dance. In her ignorance, Queen Becky trusted Stacy's word, and did not place her gaze on the dress until the night of the Great Dance. As the days passed, Stacy worked on the dress. It was truly stunning. However, the dress had a dye placed in it to where it would turn the skin of who ever wore it the color of purple. When the day of the Great Dance came, Stacy presented the dress to the Queen. Once again blinded by arrogance, the Queen was ecstatic and quickly put on the dress. As the first song played, and Becky danced with her prince, her skin turned to the royal color she always thought she was. When she realized what had happened, she left the Dance in shame, and when word came around of what Stacy had done, she was appointed Dance Queen.

Creation Story the more detailed puke

There were days before time existed where all was darkness. From this darkness their emerged a god. One day after a crazy night at a bar called "The Big Bang", the god went to the cosmos version of Taco Bell to answer the alcohol hunger craves and to continue the drown the sorrows of another unlucky night with the cougars. After his highly satisfying meal of 30% beefs and freeze dried veggies, the god, Ill call him Dave but his name is really unimportant, passed out. A few hours later, the meal he had earlier consumed decided that it was time to be released from the belly of the beast. In an act of violent convulsions that sounded like the calling of dinosaurs, Dave puked all over the porcelain toilet residing in his bathroom. the pieces of corn and meat left over from this regurgitative act became a stagnant galaxy. Nothing moved, nothing lived, nothing breathed.
In a drunken realization, Dave decided that he could put life on the floating particles residing in the bowl. On the biggest piece of meat, Dave decided he would create a group of thousands of different creatures. He spent the next few drunken hours creating all the life on earth. Plants and animals, specifically humans, were put down in different corners of the planet and set up to live. Unfortunately, Dave became hungover and had puke breath and realized that there was no way he had the energy, nor the proper breath to create life. He therefore gave up the dream of companionship and flushed. The cool rush of the spinning vortex caused by the spiral flow of the toilet was enough to awaken the life on the planet and create the spin of the universe. Now a days this toilet spins and spins, and life will continue until the vortex is consumed by the PVC pipe connected to the toilet consumes the galaxy and sends it into the septic underworld.
The End

Starter blog

Hello fellow students

This is my first blog and will contain nothing interesting, but on the opening page it will say that I have already completed a blog for this site and everyone knows it's all about the numbers.
